I don’t want to speak too soon and jinx it, but I’m hoping that spring isn’t too far off for all of us here in Chicago. Of course there’s always a chance for the spring snow storm, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Because of the fluctuation in weather this time of year, that’s why I want to talk about what I think is the perfect winter-to-spring transition piece—the trench coat.

Layers

Spring can be all over the board—one day it’s 75 and sunny, the next there’s snow in the forecast. I like to be prepared for anything, so that’s why I rely on layers this time of year. A trench coat is perfect layers. It’s light, so if it’s chilly you can wear a sweater underneath without looking too bulky. Or, if the temps are up, it works well with a light knit or tee.

Lightweight

I don’t know about you, but I get so annoyed when I wear a heavy coat out of the house, and then have to take it off and carry it everywhere because I get too hot. Another reason why trench coats are the best transition piece. They’re light enough that you can leave them on all day (but still work with layers when it’s chilly like I said above). My go-to for this fashion hot potato is this Banana Republic Factory Store trench. You’ll get so much use out of it.

Classic Style

Finally, you can’t go wrong with a trench coat because they’re a classic look. You can invest in one today and it’ll still be in style 20 years from now. You can stick with the traditional khaki or add some color with something like this. Trenches are so flexible, too. You can dress them up or down. Perfect for throwing on for drop off, running errands or layering for a night out to dinner.

Bottom line, get yourself a trench coat. You’ll love it and use it so much for this awkward, transitional time of year.

Love the trench! Also love the pants – could you please tell me what they are. The length is perfect. Great outfit!

Could you also please share the white tee; I am on the hunt for a good one and it is proving more difficult than I expected! TY
