Halloween is my family’s favorite time of year, so I always spend time thinking up original Halloween costume ideas. I was never a huge fan of Halloween growing up, but when I met Stephen, it quickly became one of our favorites. We always had the best couples and family costumes. I love coming up with ideas for Halloween—I even love Halloween decor.
And even though our family dynamic has changed, we are still going to go all out for our favorite holiday. Get ready for great ideas for Halloween. This year Clark and Stone are going to be football players so don’t be surprised if you see two referees (mommy and daddy) hanging out with them.
Halloween Costumes Ideas
I live for family Halloween costumes. When the boys were younger, I would host a family Halloween party at my home. I actually found a giant inflatable pumpkin and it was our photo op for our guests to get a family photo. I was married to a man with a fine arts degree in painting so needless to say, combining his artistic talent, plus my creativity was a recipe for Halloween success.
Wizard of Oz was one of our first family costumes. I was Dorothy, Stone was the lion, Clark was the scarecrow, and Stephen was the tinman. I ordered everyone’s costumes online and it was so much fun.
Sesame Street was my all-time favorite family Halloween costumes. It’s one of my all-time favorites because a lot of it was homemade. I was Big Bird, Clark was Super Grover, Stone was Cookie Monster, Stephen was Count Dracula, and my mother-in-law was Abby Cadabby.
I ordered my yellow slip dress, yellow boa feathers, and my headband from Amazon. Stephen made my feet out of felt. Trish, my mother-in-law, made my rings with t-shirt fabric and the same stuffing I used for my feet. Trish made her Abby Cadabby headband and skirt while Stephen went all out and made his cape and his ears. We put our hot glue gun to the test and created these amazing Halloween costumes. I went retro and ordered the Super Grover costume and Stone’s cookie monster costumes online as well.
There are so many Halloween ideas for couples. I really get creative and dig deep into my creative mind to come up with some good ones. I look for fashion, old TV shows, rock and roll idols, the list goes on.
One year was completely fashion inspired and we went as Karl Lagerfield and his cat. This was quite easy to make. I will forever miss American Apparel stores but thank goodness they are still online. It was there that I got my top and skirt and my ears and tail online. I ordered rhinestone brooches to attach to Stephen’s suit and voilá we were fashion royalty.
Our Guns N Roses inspired year was one of our last costumes as a couple. We went as Axl Rose and Slash. I totally got in the slash spirit and even carried an unlit cigarette all night. I ordered the t-shirt and jewelry on amazon including the curly wig. Stephen had the boots and t-shirt but we ordered his kilt, jewelry, and wig from Amazon as well. It was a knock out Halloween, to say the least.
There are so many Halloween costume ideas for families and couples, so have some fun with it. The possibilities are endless so enjoy it – whether it be with your kids or with your significant other. This year will be with my family and I can’t wait. I hope you have enjoyed a few of my personal photos over the years. I can’t wait to see your family photos. Happy Halloween!
