It really is true that trends come back around again. What was popular 20 years ago (or even further back) is definitely popular again. Do you know what trend I’m talking about this time? You probably wore it constantly in the 80s and 90s. It’s pleats.

Wearing Pleats

Lucky for us, there are a ton of ways we can wear this trend without having to look like we’re stuck in the past. Cue this amazing J Crew skirt. One of my favorite ways to style this piece is to dress it down. I like to make it a casual, on the go type of look. Pleats are great for this because they add interest on the bottom and are balanced perfectly with a more laid back top.

Another thing about this skirt is the price. That’s what I love about mixing J Crew into my closet. You can always find a good deal. This faux leather skirt is under $100 and I feel like it has already paid for itself because of how much I wear it.

The basic top I chose to balance out the pleated skirt is also a current favorite of mine. It’s by Australian designer Cartel and Willow. It’s one of those pieces you can wear over and over again. I can even throw it on for drop off with my pajama pants when we’re running late.

The backpack is a showstopper, I must say. It’s from a company called Pacsafe. They specialize in making bags that are anti-left, but still stylish. You probably can’t see them, but there’s actually lots of discreet security details on this bag. This way I can wear a backpack when I’m running around the city and not worry about anything being stolen.

I love all the ways I’m seeing pleats right now including these metallic pants and this velvet dress. It goes to show how versatile the trend is. If you loved your pleats 20 years ago, now is the time to rock them again.
