It’s summer time! Yay! I’m always excited for summer. I would love it if Chicago was warm at least six months of the year. I only want snow because I have kids, otherwise I’d prefer nine months of summer and three months of fall weather (I love a luxurious sweater). Anywho, I’m going to enjoy the warm weather while it’s here and rock some chic denim shorts.
How To Wear Denim Shorts
I love to wear denim — I mean love. When summer time hits, I’m out at the stores searching for the seasons hottest denim shorts. This season Citizens of Humanity came out with the Alyx short with an embroidered waistband, high waist, button fly, and a frayed hem — all of my favorite things. They are so comfortable and I love the versatility of dressing them up and down.
One of the things I love most about the shorts is the built in belt, so to speak. The embroidery is on the waistline so you never have to stress over what belt to wear. Am I the only that does this? Lol. I chose to go in between dressy and casual with this look. I’ve worn them with cute tennis shoes, slides, and a pair of Nike Air Max. However, with this look, I decided to go slightly dressier and style the shorts with a white off the shoulder top and wedge espadrilles.
While putting this look together, I discovered one of my new favorite stores, Oak + Fort, in the Bucktown neighborhood here in Chicago. They are a Canadian based company that does an amazing job offering everyday affordable fashion. I picked up this shirt from there and it has the cutest ties at the wrist. I’ve also worn it under a vest for a cute little peek-a-boo shoulder vibe.
Wearing my fave Rebecca Minkoff never gets old so I just pulled it right on out. You can never have enough Rebecca Minkoff — at least I can’t. This bag is so simple, yet chic. It has loads of pockets for your cell phone, credit cards, and lipstick — you know, the important things! It also comes in a ton of colors, but I went with it in the putty color. I fought really hard with my closet and didn’t go for the black one.
I also chose my all time favorite Chanel wedge espadrilles. I’ve had these shoes forever, but they have managed to stand the test of time and still look brand new. I just simply can’t get enough of them! They are super comfortable and stylish at the same time. I can’t wear really high heels since being pregnant, so I live for a wedge. It’s the ultimate staple for your closet — especially if you’ve worn heels all your life like I have. My knees need a break and a wedge shoe or sandal is a great way to do it.
My earrings are from J.Crew. It’s where I get a lot of my fashion jewelry. I love the soft rose petal look for a statement earring. Unfortunately, they are no longer available but I’ve linked an investment pair that are to die for.
With summer beginning to wind down, get the most out of your denim shorts while you can! Back-to-school is on my heels, so this kind of look will be in my rotation as a quick thing to throw on for drop off — at least until it gets cool outside. Speaking of that — I’ve entered the world of one drop off for Clark and Stone. Both boys will be attending the same school in September. If you know me, I am always 5 minutes late for just about everything, so dropping off two boys that have to be at school at the same time will definitely be a challenge.
If you’re anything like me, this post if for you. Knowing how to wear denim shorts will save you lots of time in the morning and keep the focus on getting out the door. Otherwise, save them for your girl brunches, mom’s nights out, or dates with the person that gives you goosebumps.

Great memory Stace! We were together when I bought them. We need another girls date😘
Great style! Shorts still seem casual to me, but with a stylish top they do look dressier. I love those earrings!
Thank you girl. I use to feel the same way.
