Austin Family Fun

Austin

Traveling with kids is completely different now that my boys are 3 1/2 and 5.  I can no longer pick a destination that only fits my needs-we need a little play, great restaurants, and a fun, family vibe!  We decided on Austin, TX for family fun.  Besides the obvious music scene,  Austin is actually a great place to visit with kids and does a great job of giving the adults some options.  Clark and Stone had the most amazing time at ThinkeryAustin’s place for “how” and “why” where science and families can play side by side.  It’s an amazing children’s museum  ideal for families, located near downtown.  Clark and Stone found hours of entertainment.  They watched a live baby chick hatch,  scoped out a life-size Lite brite installation, and dominated the outside climbing area.

I was able to get away for a much-needed girls’ night with one of my oldest (friendship not age) dearest friends, Liz.  You all may know her as one of Austin’s top food bloggers, Local Savour.  She offers healthy cooking, farmers market inspired, and family friendly recipes, which I’ve tested over the past 19 years.  We headed out to Launderette for an amazing meal!  The agnolotti has english peas, lamb merguez, and camembert.  Amazing, right!  In addition to the agnolotti, we devoured the charred octopus, and the profiteroles for dessert.  After stuffing our faces we went for an after dinner drink at Aviary.  It is the cutest little wine bar with an amazing wine list and great service.

After my kid-free evening,  I was ready for some food and fun with the fam.   Midway Food Park offers a variety of yummy food trucks and a playground for the kids to play.  It has ample parking, an air-conditioned bathroom trailer, and live oak trees to eat under, picnic-style.  In the end,  Austin’s food won my heart and the awesome selection of fun family friendly activities.
